Tie for first in Gladewater horse guessing contest
Eleven competitors shared first place in a Gladewater horse guessing contest with winners from Longview and Gladewater. The event was sponsored by 42 local firms. Lions Club won first prize for a rodeo parade float, and window decorating awards went to Ford Office Supply and the Chamber of Commerce.

Grant Approved for Gravity Sewers in Gladewater
Senator Lloyd Bentsen and Rep Ray Roberts announced an EPA grant of 120000 dollars to the City of Gladewater for gravity sewer lines totaling about 29406 feet in 8 12 and 15 inch diameters. The project carries a total cost of 218300 dollars with 120060 dollars allocated including 10910 for planning serving 2500 residents. Voters approved a 1968 bond issue. work proceeds in phases to provide citywide sewer service.

Dr Jerry A Hendrix son of Mr and Mrs Lyle Hendrix has been promoted to Professor at American University Washington DC He joined the Speech Arts Department in 1965 as Assistant Professor became Associate in 1968 He earned a PhD from LSU in 1964 and holds degrees from Texas State University and the University of Oklahoma He has taught at Westmar College and the University of Southwestern Louisiana He coauthored Rhetorical Criticism Methods and Models and chairs the Public Address Division of the Speech Communication Association He will in September become President of the Metropolitan Washington Speech Communication Association and is active in several other associations.
