Glade co eds injured in car crash near Kilgore
Two 18 year old Kilgore College students from Gladewater were seriously hurt when a car wreck occurred about three miles north of Kilgore on SH 135 near Peavine Grocery. Karen Hudspeth suffered toe loss and multiple injuries. Kerry Hensley sustained a fractured thigh, deep arm gash, facial cuts, and lost teeth. They were rushed to Good Shepherd Hospital Longview and Roy Laird Memorial Kilgore for treatment.

Geologist V E Tims Dies After Short Illness
Vergil E. Tims 71 a Gladewater resident for 12 years died Sunday in a Longview hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Conrad Winborn officiating and graveside services Wednesday at Eastview Cemetery Vernon. Arrangements were by Malcolm Stone Funeral Home. He was a retired geologist with Standard Oil Co for 20 years and worked in Grahan Gainesville Abilene and Dallas before transferring to Houston in 1954.

The Gladewater school board preliminarily approves a 1,994,857 dollar budget for 1973 74, raises salaries under HB 240, funds higher utility costs for three schools, and sets a tax rate of 1.40 with a 2.18 percent increase. A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for the July meeting.

Rodent Control Program Planned for Gregg County

Gladewater Rodeo Opens With 183 Entrants In 36th Year
Rain did not dampen opening day as 183 contestants entered the four day Gladewater Round Up Rodeo. The RCA sanctioned event runs through Saturday with $12,000 prize pool and features notable riders such as Larry Mahan and Ernie Taylor, plus clowns and famous stock like Streamer and bull V-61. Cowgirl barrel racers compete for $400 in the GRA open.
