The 40th annual Gladewater Roundup Rodeo nears its final performance as cowboys chase top scores in bull riding steer wrestling barrel racing and calf roping. Monty Taylor leads bull riding with 73 on 17M while Larry Ferguson and Roy Duvall headline the steer events. Rodeo president Jack Phillips received honorary spurs in a Friday ceremony as capacity crowds await Saturday night’s close.

Vic Dorrough Keeps Boots From 1937 For Annual Rodeo Street Dance
Vic Dorrough, 71, longtime Gladewater resident, organizes the yearly rodeo street dance and still wears the Justin boots he received in 1937 the night of the first rodeo. He has worn the same boots for 40 rodeos and plans to continue past this year.

Child dies of heat stroke in Longview
A two year old Longview girl died from heat stroke after the mother left her in a car from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with the windows slightly lowered. An autopsy led Justice of the Peace Charles Cashell to rule the death accidental following a probe.
