Mr and Mrs W M Brooks marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception at the White Oak community center hosted by their children. The couple wed in Evant Texas and have lived in Gladewater three years, previously in Kilgore and Louisiana. They have five sons and nine grandchildren, with Melvin Dale serving with the U S Navy at Pearl Harbor.

About 37 riders on a San Diego to Savannah trek the Wandering Wheels group promotes Christian witnessing. Eighteen boys and 19 girls take part with Taylor University roots and riders from eight other colleges. Each uses a ten speed Schwinn and pays a 150 dollar trail fee for meals and repairs.
