City Building Permits Reflect Steady Growth Through 1977

City records show 295 home building permits totaling 5.44 million dollars issued from Jan 1, 1976 to June 30, 1977, plus 38 apartment units worth 440,500 and 195 commercial permits totaling 2.80 million. Overall building permits for homes, commercial buildings and apartments reached 8.68 million in ten years and six months, not counting alterations, moves, or mobile homes.

FBI chief cancels Longview speech at TCPA convention

FBI director Clarence Kelley withdraws from delivering a luncheon speech at the TCPA convention in Longview Aug 3-9. Associate Director James Adams will substitute. Gov. Dolph Briscoe, A.G. John Hill, and other officials are slated to speak at events through Aug. 6.

Robertson services held Friday

Funeral services for Herbert Lee Robertson 63 of Rt 2 Gladewater were held Friday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev Lavern Rudolph officiating. Burial was in Gladewater Memorial Park Cemetery. He was a WWII Army veteran and Baptist. Survivors include daughter Ethel Faye Marlow four sisters and four grandchildren. Pallbearers listed.

Services Sunday for Ruth Smith

Funeral services for Ruth Smith 61 are set for Sunday at 3 pm in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev Tim York of Gladeview Baptist Church officiating. Interment follows at Rosedale Cemetery. She died Friday at 12:30 pm after a brief illness. She lived Route 2 and had 35 years in the area. Survivors include daughter Nancy Watason Houston son George H Smith four Chesney brothers seven grandchildren. Pallbearers named.
