Lone Star Steel Clinics Offer Music Baseball and Twirling Fun
More than 800 East Texas youths joined Lone Star Steel Company summer clinics in 1971 focusing on band music baseball and baton twirling. Director Bob Hurtte praised the program as one of the best in years with assistance from Coca-Cola Bottling Company and a five-instructor music staff led by Ralph Hale. Baseball clinics drew 407 participants across Pony League Little League and beginner groups. Twirling attracted 112 participants with high school sessions to follow, taught by Jean Maris Nancy Lee and a four-member staff of former majorettes.
