White Oak Roughnecks led with four players on the Texas Sports Writers Association 1970 Class A All-State teams. First team offense includes guard Ronnie Screws and fullback Joe Stephens. quarterback Mike Barber shared second team offense honors with Canadian's Bill Lynch. Second team defense features Danny Denton. The team finished 13-1-0, claimed District 19-A and regional titles, and lost 7-6 to Pflugerville in the state semifinal.

Jaycees Basketball Tournament Opens in Gladewater
The Gladewater Jaycees start a three session basketball tournament with sixteen teams, no admission, at the high school gym. Play began Saturday morning and the event continues the next two Saturdays with the local Jaycees among the entrants. Corp. John B. Healy, a United Air Force pilot from West Dundee Illinois, flew the Air Force football team to Washington DC for a game with Navy. His son Mike, a sophomore end, was among the players.

Jarvis Christian College Receives Gulf Oil Capital Grant
Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins Texas received a $10 000 capital grant from the Gulf Oil Foundation to bolster its library collection including microfilm and tapes. Dr J O Perpener accepted the grant from W G Crouch with Douglas McAdoo present. Gulf’s program totals more than $3 million for education this year.
