Lone Star Steel faces protracted strike over wage and rule changes
During contract talks from September 5 1968 to a strike on October 15 1968 the union pushed for restrictive work rules and broader wage and fringe benefits. The company proposed concessions and wage steps for a new contract but the union held firm, extending stalemate into 1969 with mediation. The dispute threatens continued production as Lone Star Steel expands staff and rehiring while reporting over nine million dollars in lost wages in the 90 days of impasse.
