Missouri Pacific seeks mobile routes to close four Texas depots

The Missouri Pacific Railroad asks the Texas Railroad Commission to reestablish four mobile agency routes serving about ten points and retire dismantle depot buildings in East Texas towns Gladewater Greggton DeKalb and New Boston plus Annona Mesquite Harrys Eagle Ford Eastland Strawn. A hearing is set for February 26 in Austin.

Mrs. Rosa Jeter Dies at 86. Rites Set Thursday

Rosa Jeter 86 of 301 West Commerce died Wednesday at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Gladewater and was a charter member of First Methodist Church. Services will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the church with burial in Rosedale Cemetery. Malcolm Stone Funeral Home in charge. She is survived by two stepdaughters, a sister, three nephews, two nieces, and several other relatives. Pallbearers include Herman Williams and others.

Assailant Sought After Houston Woman Beating

Norma Traina of Houston was beaten Monday in Dallas and hospitalized with facial bruises and a broken left hand. She was moved to Longview as officers in Gregg County seek the assailant named by the victim. Police report not in critical condition.

Emergency Course Sets Free Training in Emergency Care

A practical course on emergency care and transportation of the sick and injured is scheduled January 22 23 and 24 in the nursing classroom of Medical Center Hospital in Tyler. The course is free and diplomas will be issued to those completing it. Dr James B Mason notes that proper care and transportation after accidents can reduce permanent disability. The program is run by the Texas State Department of Health Ambulance Licensing and Training Program the Tyler Committee on Trauma and Medical Center Hospital.

Gladewater School Board Renews Superintendent Contract

The Gladewater School Board renewed Supt Roy Johnsons contract for three years from July 1 1969 to June 30 1972 after an executive session. Director of Business Services Raydell Goggins reported on the school business office. Three Clarks ville mothers petitioned to extend the first after noon bus route about five tenths of a mile east to let six children board earlier, but the board noted a policy limiting the early route to within the city limits. Teenage Panel At PTA Meeting Explores Teen Life

A quartet of high school students addressed the GHS PTA in the cafeteria, discussing teen clothes study habits family duties and parental support for activities. They urged good study habits learned early, stressed family responsibilities and noted teens face more complex modern challenges than their parents.

E. E. Spencer Dies Sunday At 62 In Gladewater

Ernest Eugene Spencer 62 died Sunday at his Gladewater home after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Walter Buehrle officiating. He was a retired machinist, member of the Gladewater Masonic Lodge and First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife Evelyn two brothers three sisters and two grandchildren. Burial was at Gladewater Memorial Park.
