Telephone service in the Gladewater Longview area will improve as a conduit project along U.S. Highway 80 nears completion in late February or early March. The final phase runs four miles east of the city to the General Telephone Company exchange on Dean Street near West Upshur Highway 80.

Tyler Miss Tyler Pageant entries due soon

Entries for this year's Miss Tyler Pageant must be received by Saturday. The pageant is set for February 6 in the Caldwell auditorium. Big Sandy Woman Shot in Local Lounge

Mrs. Lillian Marie Gage a 23 year old Big Sandy resident remained in fair condition at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview after a Saturday shooting in a lounge on Highway 271 west of the city. She was admitted Saturday night and later transferred for further treatment. No charges have been filed and the case remains under investigation with a woman taken into custody for questioning.

Police Reserve to Hold First Meeting

The Gladewater police reserve will hold its first meeting Thursday night at 7 in the city hall. Applications for membership are still open and those who have applied or wish to apply should attend. Reserve members assist regular officers after training and must meet state study requirements.
