New Lower Texas DDD Rates Take Effect After Freeze

The Price Commission approved lower dial-it-yourself DDD rates, effective December 29, applying within Texas and during holiday periods. Rates now mirror interstate schedules, include Labor Day and July 4 holidays, add a nightly 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. one minute initial period, and keep three minutes for intrastate initial calls. Also noted are higher charges for operator assisted calls and applicability to towns without DDD. Cart thefts in Dallas cost stores about $60,000 monthly, with carts valued around $30 each and widespread pilfering of laundry, garbage, and paper by unknown individuals.
