Disaster averted as fire hits high school
A fire at Gladewater High School damaged the art classroom in an incident blamed on spontaneous combustion of art materials. Fire units arrived at 8:07 p.m. and had the fire under control in about 20 minutes with arson not suspected. Samples were sent to a state lab in Austin for analysis and the classroom remains closed for repairs.

Ambulance Service Struggles With Rising Demand and Standards
Gladewater's fire department runs the city ambulance service with 12 paid and nine volunteer firemen, EMTs, and Red Cross trained staff. Last year 617 runs included 179 sick calls, 64 car accidents, 335 non emergency transfers, and 74 oxygen administrations, serving Gregg Upshur and Smith counties as well as distant towns like Big Sandy.

GHS Band Boosters Meet. Chicken Spaghetti Dinner Planned
The GHS Band Boosters convene on Tuesday March 1 at 7 30 in the band hall with discussion of the band trip and new committee appointments. The Ladies Auxiliary of East Mt Volunteer Fire Dept sponsors a chicken spaghetti dinner Sunday February 27 from noon to 2 pm at East Mt Baptist Church. Proceeds fund department equipment.

Kilgore College Bands Invited to Romania Tour 1977
Kilgore College HKangerettes Ranger Band and Stage Band receive invitations to perform in Romania from May 18 to June 3 1977. The two week trip will be partly funded by host government and U S foundations with a $700 per person shortfall requiring tax deductible donations from banks businesses or individuals. Linda Sims the sole Gladewater High School graduate in the band is highlighted and chaperoned during the educational tour.
