Maryland State Police plan a special small arms course for women after 15 women invaded the Pikesville headquarters and asked about handgun training. The program aims to start soon, said Jack Marsh, director of information.
Roy Johnson updated chamber directors at the luncheon on March 24 banquet plans. Carl Cooper of Longview will be principal speaker. Event at Middle school cafeteria starts 7 p.m. Tickets cost 5. Student art, musical program, and open house for new offices at 215 N. Main street with a tentative ribbon cutting March 4 at 10 a.m.
Gladewater Lions Club hosts an annual light bulb sale Saturday from 9 am to noon at the post office corner to raise funds for Texas Lions Club camp programs for crippled and blind children. Jack Finley heads the Wheelchair team and Joe McElroy chairs the White Cane team. bulbs are available via Lions members.

The Gladewater Boys Baseball Commission announces final registration for boys ages 7 to 12 on Saturday February 26 from 1 00 to 3 00 p.m. at Broadway School playground. Fees are 4 per boy or 10 per family. Three leagues Pee Wee T Shirt and Little League added due to more players. A new field is under construction with workday planned for fencing and labor donations. Baseball practice starts in March and first games in early May.
George Thomas Duckworth 73 a Gladewater resident for 63 years and former police officer died Saturday night after an extended illness. Funeral services were Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with two pastors officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Sunnyvale near Mesquite. He is survived by his wife Ruth, three sisters, three brothers, and other relatives. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were named. He formerly drove a school bus and played pro baseball.
The Gladewater Kiwanis Club announced a Friday March 10 performance at 7 30 p m in the Gladewater High School auditorium. The Benny V Doss Show features family entertainment headlined by Texas Benny Doss with music singing by Brazos Valley Folks and includes ventriloquism comedy and magic. Proceeds benefit the Youth Activities Fund. Advance tickets sold by Kiwanis members.
