Scale Model Digester System Presented to Rotary Club

Jimmy Brown reports on a new waste processing system described by Buck Hammer of Ambassador College. The Eweson Composting System uses bacteria in a 120 foot long digester to convert trash into soil improving humus with no odor. Operational by May, the $200000 plus plant near the city will accept city garbage and produce usable compost.

LeTourneau marks 25th charter anniversary with governor address

Gov. Preston Smith spoke at LeTourneau College in Longview for a 25th anniversary convocation in the chapel attended by students, faculty, and invited guests. Ceremonies honored original charter signers Merritt Gibson and R. G. LeTourneau’s widow, with other campus leaders and guests present. The event highlighted the college now offering accredited liberal arts and engineering programs amid financial challenges facing private colleges.

Mrs Lola McKinley Dies Friday Final Rites Sunday

Lola Leestus McKinley 54 died Friday in a local hospital. Funeral services Sunday at 2:30 pm at First Pentecostal Church with Bro C B Warren and Bro Elisha Verrett officiating. Plan Discussed to Disband PTA Units

At a joint meeting of Gay Avenue and Broadway PTA units at Gay Avenue School Jack Finley Broadway PTA president announced both executive committees accepted a resolution to disburse with the PTA units There were no objections Open House and possibly a school play may be retained Further meetings will decide how treasury funds are used People can express interest in retaining the PTA by writing Gay Avenue School care of the PTA or Jack Finley First State Bank Building Two room counts were taken for each school and refreshments were served.

Basketball Benefit Games At GHS Gym

Gladewater faculty will play Junior boys while Junior teams face Senior boys in two Tuesday night games at the GHS gym. Proceeds benefit the Junior class for the Junior-Senior banquet expenses. Games start 6 30 and 7 30 with referee John Lyle. Admission 50 cents students 1.00 adults. Public invited.

Raymond Services Conducted Saturday

Funeral services for George M. Raymond 52 were held Saturday at 4 pm in Rock Springs Church. Burial followed in Rock Springs Cemetery. He died Friday at home from a heart attack. He leaves a mother, a son, a daughter, a brother and three sisters.
