Council Has Busy Session In March Budget Talks
The city council met Tuesday night with a packed agenda including moving 25,102.35 from the hospital revenue bond fund to the general fund and 14,929.60 from the general fund to the revenue bond reserve to retire about 72,000 in outstanding debt. A public hearing on the budget was set for March 4 at 7 p.m. with adoption due by March 20, and the March tax rate to be set at the second March meeting. Langford’s monthly pay rises to 1000 plus allowances, attorney Ernest Martin to 235, and Judge Roy Leggitt to 225 were approved along with other raises. The council authorized a 475 trash container purchase, trash pickup arrangements for Paul and Donald Wilks, and dropping Wilks from mandatory sanitation service with a 5-2 vote. Also appointed were members of the Equalization Board and approvals for an outside water tap and an upcoming audit. A report on a state Railroad Commission hearing was heard.

Hugman seeks return to Gladewater school board Place Four
Dr. G. R. Hugman filed Tuesday as a candidate for Place Four on the Glade water school board. He has served since May 8, 1967 after filling the unexpired term of Pat Hamilton. Tom Erwin, another incumbent, will not seek re election. C. Leon Fatherree filed Friday as candidate for Place Five now held by Erwin. Election set for Saturday April 5 with polling at Broad way school cafeteria Glade water and Community Centers in Pritchett Starrville and Friendship.

City Manager Bill Langford released tentative 1969 70 budget figures totaling 701 522 dollars, about 95 560 more than 1968 69’s 605 962. Expenditures are expected near 698 000 with sales tax intake and water sewer rate increases boosting revenue, framed as the most progressive budget since oil decline.
