Gladewater board votes to hold April 1 trustee election for Hugman and Cockerell. Filing runs Feb 15 to March 1 with absentee voting March 3 to March 28. Funeral service notes and other district actions accompany the meeting.
Police recover a ring of keys including one for a gas cap lock found near railroad tracks. A memorial gift funds the Joe Kellum Library in memory of Mrs. Grady W Dillon. The central jury panel for Longview lists several named women and men. Community members seek tennis partners and announce a dog’s adoption. The Bob Willis Trio performs February 20 at First Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Hodson’s grandson writes from Midland renewing her Mirror subscription. Lions Club plans for an annual Light Bulb sale are noted.
The council opened bids for two city pickup trucks with a low bid of 5 230 from McKaig Chevrolet. It approved an 18 000 public boat ramp project on the Sabine River near the Highway 21 bridge funded by Parks and Wildlife boat fees. Cable service franchise for Tyler based Cable Systems Inc and Communications Properties Inc was outlined with work to begin within 60 days.
The twenty fourth East Texas Revue staged by Gladewater High School choir director Ken Bennett and sponsored by the American Legion opens Monday at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets are sold at Jobe Drug or at the door. Mrs. Cliff Bowden narrates with a spring fashion show featuring local models and outfits from Daniel's Up Town Shop J C Penneys Winnie Lee Rhodes and K Welens.
University of Texas will raise housing costs for the 1972 73 academic year with dormitory increases around five percent. Most married student housing summer conference housing and Division of Housing and Food Service services will rise about ten percent.
Kilgore council approves joining East Texas Law Enforcement Radio System with a 2500 share. Crossings repair by Texas & Pacific Railroad and direct dialing by May 1975 are announced plus hospital insurance upgrades for employees. Mayor and council name members to discuss Maxey Acres annexation. Night scenes and a snowy sequence mark Sesame Street’s new realism.
Three incumbent city councilmen Mayor O G Johnston Curtis Bright and A Jy Pappy Shipp filed for reelection just before Tuesday’s council meeting The filing deadline is March 1 Each term runs two years Johnston and Bright seek their second two year terms Shipp aims for his first full term after serving a year and a half following the resignation of Quentin Abernathy in August 1970 Other councilmen J B Poston George Thomas Melvin Jenkins and James Walker have terms expiring in 1973
Gladewater Lions Club held its ladies night dinner at Johnny Cace's Restaurant with 65 Lions and guests present. 22 members received service pins and life memberships. awards went to four past district governors and several members for 10 to 30 years of service and perfect attendance.
