Upshur man injured in suspected attack near Big Sandy
Jennings Whitter 66 a Upshur County farmer and Shady Grove resident was shot in the head and struck with a blunt instrument near his hay barn while feeding cattle. Robbery is suspected and his pickup was later found in Upshur County near New Hope cemetery. He remained in serious condition at Tyler Medical Center.

City council approves park rules and tax reappraisal plan
The council adopted rules for Gladewater Memorial Park cemetery, approved a one year Jaycees lease for Jaycee Park, and voted $334 to the East Texas Council of Governments. It authorized $4724 in legal fees for Loop 485 easements, and a $50,000 tax reappraisal contract split $15,000 city and $35,000 school district. The board reappointed members to the Board of Equalization and appointed Gordon Mayer as assistant election judge, amid ineligibility concerns. District 14 AA Basketball Teams Declared Ineligible
Representatives from White Oak Troup Whitehouse West Rusk Lindale Mineola and Gladewater met in Gladewater to declare all District 14 AA basketball teams ineligible for bi district play in 1975 76 for violations of UIL Constitution and Basketball Plan rules. The decision followed findings of rule breaches including schedule irregularities and a third game in Van on January 24. Roy Johnson of Gladewater chaired the meeting with Dr Bailey Marshall consulted.

City towns get 11.3 million sales tax rebates from Comptroller
Comptroller Bob Bullock mailed monthly city sales tax rebate checks totaling 11.3 million to 741 cities and towns, bringing this year’s total rebates to 22.7 million. He warned Bicentennial groups selling souvenirs must hold sales tax permits and remit taxes, though purchases used in commemorating the celebration are exempt. Gilmer attorney denounces health plan at rotary gathering
Welby K Parrish former Upshur County district attorney spoke to the Gilmer Rotary Club opposing Public Law 93 641 pledging to repeal it.
