Gregg County Shrine Club and Auxiliary held their annual banquet at the Contessa Inn in Longview with Sharon Temple Imperial Potentate Ray L. Vandegriff of Carthage installing officers. William Renfro was named president. Ralph Hartman and Samuel Troxell were first and second vice presidents, Clyde Crawford secretary treasurer, and A K Stubbs listed as last past president.

Large drug raid rocks Smith County area arresting Tyler man

Smith County deputies and Tyler police arrested a 20 year old man and an 18 year old girl in a major drug operation on the first drug market. Authorities seized marijuana mescaline and unidentified capsules valued at over 2000. Narcotics agent Bobby Sanders led the operation with Dale Geddie, following a week of surveillance on the male suspect.

Kiwanis Club Forms Blood Pool for Gladewater

The Gladewater Kiwanis Club announces a community blood pool operated via Stewart Blood Bank of Tyler. A kickoff donor drive is planned for Thursday March 3 from 3 to 8 30 p.m. at Gladewater with regular donations at the Tyler Blood Bank on weekdays and Thursday nights. Over 30 pints have already been pledged.

Rubella Clinic Set for March 5

Gregg County Health Department and Gregg County Chapter of the National Foundation of the March of Dimes sponsor a county wide Rubella Measles Immunization Clinic on Sunday March 5. Immunizations protect against Rubella and Measles with a combined vaccine for those needing both. Children ages 1 through 11 may receive the vaccine at no charge, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and the program is endorsed by the Gregg County Medical Society.

Day Care Center Board Reviews Needs in Gladewater

Gladewater day care board in regular session reviewed center needs. Mrs Gordon Mayer was appointed to study a line of educational toys now on the market funded by a Methodist WSCS gift. The board discussed hiring an additional employee and contacting two civic groups for projects. major improvements aim to enlarge study and play areas with Wendell Chronister as supervisor. The First Presbyterian Church session will meet to approve parsonage interior changes.

Mrs McKenzie Elected To Library Council Meeting

Mrs Ann McKenzie, a Gladewater Public Library board member, was elected secretary of the Major Resource System Advisory Council at the first annual lay representatives meeting of the Dallas Resource System held at the Dallas Public Library. The council will advise on plans, policies, and local library improvements across 34 counties with state funding support.
