Mrs Mary Richards Dies In Longview

Mrs. Mary M. Richards, 86, died Wednesday in Good Shepherd Hospital Longview after a lengthy illness. Father Robert Chagnon conducted a Funeral Mass at St Theresa's Catholic Church Friday at 9:30 a.m. Burial followed at Union Grove Cemetery. Stone Funeral Home handled arrangements with a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday. A Kentucky native born June 13, 1883, she lived in Gladewater since 1931 and was a member of St Theresa's.

Upshur County Plans Water Reservoir and Hospital

In a county meeting at the Upshur Rural Electric Coop, the Program Building Committee reported on a proposed water reservoir, a new hospital, hospital auxiliary progress, and road work. J D Warren urged complete agreement before taking action on a new hospital, noting county physicians favor a hospital bond if voters approve. Malcolm Smith outlined a $2.511 million reservoir project with a county bond need, stressing water scarcity and rising use.

He noted reserve limits before breakdown under stress, and outlined psychology’s roles in politics, law, and religion, with examples from Pavlov and early experiences shaping fear.

Earl Scroggins Dies In Tyler In East Texas obituary

Earl Scroggins died Thursday at 3 am in a Tyler hospital. Funeral services are Sunday at 2 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview. He was born October 11, 1897 in Malone Hill County, lived in Tyler, managed golf courses and clubs, and retired in 1964 to Lake Devernia. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Wood, six sisters, one brother, and six pallbearers. Contributions to charity are requested in lieu of flowers.

Gregg County voter registrations near record high

Gregg County Tax Assessor Collector Bill Harper said registrations will reach around 24 000 after final figures. Deadline was Friday January 31 with office open until midnight. By Friday 22 280 receipts issued and about 1 600 applications on hand. Final figure due Wednesday or Thursday.
