Funeral Rites Held for Mrs. Willie Mae Goodwin

Funeral services for 72 year old Willie Mae Goodwin were held Tuesday at 2 PM in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Crosby officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park. A Gladewater resident since 1934 she died Monday in a Tyler hospital after a long illness. She was born in Louisiana, a housewife and Memorial Baptist Church member. Survivors include her husband Garcia.

Gilmer Man Dies in Crash Wife Injured in Wreck

A near head on collision on U S Highway 80 near Locker Plant Road left Thomas Wayne Montgomery 24 dead and his wife Lucy 19 in very serious condition at Tyler Medical Center ICU. The Montgomerys rode a Yamaha motorcycle and tried to turn in front of a 1962 Ford driven by Bert Eagle Sharp 16.

Rites Held For Mrs. Phyllis Pool At Memorial Park

Graveside services for Mrs. Phyllis Pool 1035 Chevy Chase will be held Thursday at 2 PM in Memorial Park. The Rev Frank Cady will officiate with arrangements by Malcolm Stone Funeral Home. Mrs Pool 61 died Tuesday night in an Odessa hospital after a brief illness. Born February 10 1916 in Pond Creek Oklahoma she lived in Gladewater 30 years. Turley group soft on needs but opposed to waste

Bill Turley of Citizens for Fair Taxes says the group does not oppose meeting school needs including new buildings but opposes unnecessary spending. The group filed suit against Gladewater ISD seeking fair taxation and taxing intangible property while denying involvement in a petition opposing a new high school. Rural landowners say they bear most school tax burden as district property revaluations increased land values after 20 years, with some land previously valued at $30 to $50 per acre rising sharply.
