City-wide Lake Gladewater paving near finish

City Manager Tony N Williams said the West Lake Drive paving is in the home stretch with completion expected by December 28 or 29 weather permitting. The five mile project began after a sealing coat and cost $96,000, the first city-owned Lake Gladewater paving program approved in October.

Gladewater Police Association expands to sixteen sponsors

The newly formed Gladewater Police Association now lists 16 sponsor-members led by Gary Speed as president. Certificates were presented to eight locals on Tuesday by Sr. Sgt. Bill Wells, reserve Sgt. Beth Carey, and Ruth Morris, who heads the reports and records unit.

Promises not kept end careers of two hospital therapists

Clark and Shirley Smith, respiratory therapists, were discharged from Gladewater Municipal Hospital after clashing over schedules and department policy. They claim unmet promises about fair shifts, head of the department role, and on call duties hinder their family life with four children.

E. B. Lee dies. rites held in Gladewater church

Earl B. Lee Sr., 80, longtime Gladewater resident, died Monday in a local hospital after illness. Funeral held Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Rev. B F Risinger Jr officiating. Burial in Rock Springs Cemetery. Survivors include wife Velma, a daughter, two sisters, a brother, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He served as a bank founder, Lee Insurance owner, and was a deacon and former city councilman.

Holiday Bank and Business Hours Announced

First State Bank will stay open late Thursday to 5 30 p m for customers and close all day Christmas Eve. The schedule repeats next week with Thursday Dec 30 closing at 5 30 p m and a day before New Year s. Gladewater Federal Savings and Loan and the Gladewater Mirror also plan three day holidays with partial closures on Dec 23 and Dec 30. The Mirror will publish Sunday edition on Friday both weeks and close at noon Dec 24 and Dec 30, resuming Monday at 8 a m.
