Kilgore voters will decide on a 250000 bond to finance sewer line extensions in southeast Kilgore and nearby areas. City officials say tax funds won’t be affected, no rate hike is planned, and operating revenues will retire the bonds as new customers join the system. Annexation of a 417 acre area is part of the plan.
Thomas Michael Harris 26, an employee of Sidewinder Boat Co., died at Carthage Hospital Tuesday night after a brief illness. Funeral set for Thursday at 2 p.m. in Hawthorn Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chuck Willis. burial in Odd Fellow Cemetery. Survived by wife Oleeta, children Donny, Mary Susan, Tina Marie, parents Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Harris, grandmother Mrs. Mary Harris, and brother Johnny Wayne Harris.
The Mirror invites readers to send letters to Santa for the annual Christmas edition on December 21. All letters will be published and Santa will be checking the paper for wishlist items. Mail or drop letters at the office for inclusion.
The First Christian Church postpones its Christmas dinner to next Wednesday December 20th following the death of J W Aselton. Donations for a living memorial should be sent to the church box in Gadewater. A memorial gift was given to the Gladewater Public Library in memory of Mrs Wardie Stokes. Also notes on several wanted unwanted pets and a Sunday cantata by First Baptist Church. A reader letter from Mrs Bert Rush thanks The Mirror, living in Alice. Jupiter lighthouse on Florida's east coast notes its 105 foot tower first lit July 10 1860 and continuous operation since relit June 28 1866.
Jewell W. Uselton a 69 year old retired pharmacist died at 12 45 a m Tuesday after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 3 p m Wednesday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev Chester Gleason officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born January 21 1903 in Plano and had lived in Gladewater long. Survived by wife Geraldine a son Kenneth Baton Rouge La a daughter Mrs Carol Ann Muckleroy White Oak and six grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles Wilson Sam Moore Leon Waggoner Richard Causey Dale Barton and Bob Hill. Honorary pallbearers were B C Falls Jake Crouch Willie Hagen Mike Reynolds and the Mens Sunday School Class of the First Christian Church.
The Chamber of Commerce canceled its final meeting for the year at a Tuesday luncheon. The Christmas parade was hailed as very successful. City reports noted a $53,838 federal revenue sharing check for Jan 1 to Jun 30, 1972 and plans for waste disposal improvements. Houston schools win federal funds to clothe about 11,000 needy children.
Roy Pynes said the U S Postal Service offers the 1972 mini album containing 31 commemorative stamps. The red white and blue folder sells for 3.00 and folds to 82 by 11 inches with descriptive text and see through mounts. A 1971 edition is available for 2.50.

Marshall announced a $53 838 revenue sharing check from the U S Treasury covering January 1 to June 30 1972 under the 1972 act. A Nixon signed letter said this is the first payment on a five year program with quarterly funds to follow and noted Congress support for local government. The city of Gladewater was estimated to receive 72 859 for 1972 and Marshall suggested a higher 1972 payment may be possible.
The Gladewater school board awarded wiring of new window air conditioners for unconditioned rooms to T W Gipson at 8670 with a 90 day completion plan starting Jan 1 1973. Bids on four buses were opened with highest bids exceeding others and a final price of 591.59 for bus 19 and 552.50 for bus 21.
The contest ends this Saturday at 4 p.m. with four divisions offering a bicycle prize each. Entry blanks are available at sponsor stores and may be deposited in contest boxes by students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Gus Morris of Greenville was elected president of the Texas Sabine River Authority board, succeeding Charles T. Wickersham of Orange. E. A. Meek of Newton became vice president, Malcolm J. Henley of Lindale moved to secretary, and Guy Cowser of Center became secretary pro tem. John W. Simmons of Orange announced staff promotions to bolster water resource programs. Sam F. Collins of Newton was named operations manager and W. C. Swearingen noted in Greenville column.
