Miss Connie McCulley a 12 year old student in Tokyo earned the highest marks in Japanese Culture at her school. She will welcome visiting Japanese dignitaries in Japanese. Her parents, SMSgt and Mrs Stan McCulley, are proud as they have lived in Tokyo for TL months. She is the granddaughter of RoC McCulley of White Oak and H Wo Winn of Gladewater.

Mrs Joy Perren Dies After Illness At 79

Mrs Joy C Perren 79 a Gladewater resident died Sunday morning in a local nursing home after a long illness Funeral services were held Monday at 4 pm in the First United Methodist Church with Rev Conrad Winborn officiating Burial followed in Pond Creek Oklahoma Tuesday arrangements were by Malcolm Stone Funggal Home and Wilson Funeral Home She moved to Gladewater from Norman Oklahoma She was a native of Iowa and a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service She is survived by two daughters Mrs Hugh Miller and Mrs Phyllis Pool five grandchildren and three great grandchildren Pallbearers were Howard Lewis H N Preston J B Poston Calvin Brannen Wilson Godfrey and Gordon Godfrey

Gladewater Bears land multiple spots on District 8-AAA teams

Gladewater placed five players on the District 8-AAA all district selections released Tuesday. Terry Thompson and Charles Simmons earned second team slots on offense, while Hughes Watson Mason Williams and Keith Stokes joined defense first or second teams. Pine Tree senior Willie Hawkins also made both defensive and offensive squads. Jacksonville's Kent Moliridge and Floyd Canaday received other first team spots. Head Coach Jack Murphy praised the young Bears, noting seven seniors will depart and Watson starred at multiple positions.

Gladewater Boys Baseball Association Elects 1972 Officers

The 1972 Gladewater Boys Baseball Association elected a new slate led by president John Cox and new commissioner Lloyd Crabtree. Other officers include Leonard Johnson as vice commissioner and Walter Derrick as player agent. Four leagues exist with 16 teams and over 180 players. Prospective players can sign up in January with tryouts in February and March, season starts late May.
