John A. and Lois Selph of Gladewater mark their Golden Wedding anniversary with a 2 to 4 pm reception at First Baptist Church. The couple, Arkansas natives who moved to Greggton in 1935, retired after long careers and remain active in church and community.

East Texas tourism growth cited by Howard Rosser of Longview at Gladewater Chamber luncheon. He highlighted 190 million visitors from 1963 to 1973 who spent about $11 billion, with 44 percent of state tourist trade in ETCC districts and ETCC inquiries averaging 1,000 daily. The 11th East Texas Vacation Guide will print 125,000 copies for nationwide distribution, with two million map copies already circulated. Tunnell resigns RRC post
Texas Railroad Commissioner Byron Tunnell announced his resignation effective September 15 to join Tenneco Oil in Houston after eight years on the commission. He was appointed January 8, 1965, by Gov. Connally and had previously served as House speaker. Briscoe praised his public service.

Six charged with marijuana possession in two city clubs
City police arrested six persons over the weekend for marijuana possession at two local nightclubs. Five faced possession charges, one faced possession and sale. All six were arraigned before City Judge Jack Finley with bond set. Names include Walter Monroe Murphy and Dolores Ann Roberts, both held on bonds. others cited: Walter Albert Borden. Sidney Carroll Pickett. Dennis Earl Pickett. a 20 year old California resident.

Three carriers operate from Longview with poor service and delayed claims. Additional firms such as Red Arrow and Central Freight may apply to the Railroad Commission.
