Council OKs paying work for Lake Gladewater road project
The city council in a special session approved first reading of an ordinance to fund road improvements on East and West Lake Drive. About 260 lake lot lease holders will pay roughly 400 each over three years, funded by a 100000 note at 4.75 percent. A public hearing is set for Sept. 9.

Variable Summer Rainfall Shows Dry August
Figures show a very dry August with only .3 inch of rain at the city filtration plant as heat persists in the mid 90s. Year to date rainfall reaches 36.8 inches, down from the 44.5 inches recorded through August 1975, while June and July show mixed year to year totals.

Mitchell Rites Held Wednesday for George Mitchell
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday for George Mitchell 76 of 606 Tenery who died suddenly at his home Monday. Rev. LaVerne Rudolph and Rev. Chester Gleason officiated at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gladewater Memorial Park. He was born in 1900 in Carmi Illinois and lived in Gladewater since 1931. Survived by widow Madge a son George Mitchell Jr of Lake Jackson a brother Ora C Mitchell of Hot Springs Ark two sisters Velma Jeremay and Dorothy Tankersley of Flint Michigan three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were members of Carpenter's Union No 1097. Honorary pallbearers were other union members and Men’s Bible Class members.
