Officials weigh Gregg County as heli copter plant site

Gilbert Magill of Aerospace General Company told Longview businessmen that Gregg County Airport is under serious consideration for a new one man helicopter plant. He showed films of the mini craft and noted prototypes tested and four sent to the Navy Air Development Center for evaluation.

A&M specialist to lead pasture short course in Gladewater

A pasture short course for adult farmers runs August 27 through 30 in the Gladewater High School cafeteria with instruction by Phillip Nix of Texas A&M and the Vocational Agriculture Division. Nix, 19 years in field teaching and county agent work, will assist farmers on site and provide on the farm guidance during the series.

Muckleroys find tennis is fun and trophies

Tony and Kim Muckleroy of White Oak are among East Texas’s winningest youth in summer tennis. The siblings collected 22 trophies between 11 tournaments across Gladewater, Longview, Henderson, Palestine, Tyler, Hughes Springs, Van, Pittsburg, Nacogdoches, Kilgore, and the state TAAF meet in Waco. Tony won doubles with James McGill of Kilgore and placed second in singles at Longview. Kim earned her first silver piece in the 12 and under group.

Decline Seen in Meat Prices and Packing Restarts

Gladewater grocers foresee lower meat prices soon as pork and poultry ease from recent highs. Beef remains pricey but market analysts expect relief within a week as Neuhoff and Armour reopen several plants. Texas Agriculture Commissioner John C. Gladewater Enrollment Rises As Schools Open Smoothly

Gladewater schools report an orderly start to the 1973-74 year with total enrollment at 1,889 across four schools, up from 1,816 last year. GHS near 580 and projections suggest about 600 after further enrollments.

Union Grove School District plans $280000 bond issue

Union Grove school trustees call for a bond election on September 8 to issue $280,000 in bonds. Funds would build a new cafeteria, math lab, vocational agriculture classroom and girls’ PE dressing room, and renovate the building with new lighting floors auditorium air conditioning and gym.
