Union Grove School board kept the $1.89 tax rate and approved a tentative 1975-76 budget of 410,830 with an amended 433,845 for the past year. They cited no bond spending this year, oil pipeline valuation boosts, and a 38,000 debt service line amid reduced local revenue from lower valuations.
Union Grove school board debated student transfers Monday. President J A Tuttle said the district has been barred from accepting transfers for years due to racial balance concerns after government scrutiny. He noted officials could admit about 40 students but cautioned on balance.
Sabine School District denied 45 transfer requests under TEA rules to avoid changing ethnic ratios. Transfers, mostly from Kilgore and nearby districts, would have shifted elementary racial balance from 68.8 to 70.6 percent white. high and junior high ratios stayed unaffected.
