Pittsburg Rodeo Slated for Aug 21 23 in Texas

Pittsburg Texas hosts the 9th Annual IRA Rodeo from August 21 to 23. Neal Ray, president, says six major events each evening begin at 8 15 p m with bareback bronco riding calf roping steer wrestling bull riding barrel racing and calf scramble for kids under twelve. Parade August 21 at 6 p m downtown features Sharon Temple Shrine Mounted Patrol. Oklahoma State Prison Band August 22 and Mt Pleasant Jr Quadrille August 23. D C Cosburn Act trained animals perform nightly. Arena on US 271 north of city.

Kilgore plan of desegregation deemed inadequate by feds

Kilgore school officials were notified again by the Department of Health Education and Welfare that their desegregation plan remains inadequate though the feds gave little detail on federal funds cutoff. Superintendent Bill Brantley said Kilgore will continue to prioritize student welfare with decisions made locally in Kilgore MT.

United Fund Campaign Dates Set in Gladewater for 1969-70

The United Fund of Gladewater fixed October 6 as the drive date for the 1969-70 campaign. David Lloyd is Drive Chairman. A budget of 17000.00 was approved by the board after a July budget committee review led by Bill Langford with Roy Johnson Leslie Moore and Charles McChesney.

The Gladewater CB Club asks for usable clothing and small household items for hurricane Camille victims in Gulfport and Biloxi Mississippi. Gladewater athletic director Bill Waters schedules 9th grade football physicals at Moser Clinic 7:30 a.m. Friday August 29 and 8th graders at Bear Stadium on Wednesday August 27 at 2 p.m. Riverside councilman Richard Martin was reelected to a four year term but received 8 votes to 7 for his opponent Mrs Richard Martin. City council approves the West Lee Addition subdivision and rezones Walton Street to allow an $18,000 luxury duplex. The meeting also discusses dog leash penalties with 405 dog calls reported since July and votes on sewer bids, paving costs, and a 10 year asphalt plant lease near the baseball park.

Mrs Irene Love Dies in Gilmer Funeral Held Monday

Mrs Mary Irene Love 69 of 702 Canfield Gilmer died Saturday night at Gladewater Municipal Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at 4 p.m. in the Croley Funeral Home Chapel Gilmer with interment in Morris Cemetery. She was born June 26 1900 in Upshur County and was a Church of Christ member and Rebacca Lodge member. Survivors include daughter Mrs Herschel Baker of Gladewater and brother Jewell Earp of Dallas.
