Mae Estelle McCann 81, former Gladewater resident, died Thursday at Holiday Lodge Nursing Home in Longview after a long illness. Funeral held 2 PM Saturday at Malcolm Stone Chapel, burial Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters Grace Davis and Mrs. W. Ellis, two sons Ernest and Albert, sister Mrs. Bull Foster, brothers Jim and Willie Culpepper, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers listed.

Two Gladewater Men Charged After Trailer House Disturbance
Charles Robert McGee age 32 and Thomas Edwin McGee age 27, both of Gladewater, faced charges after a 2 a.m. disturbance at a North Main trailer house. Charles McGee was charged with rudely displaying firearms, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault on a peace officer and simple assault, with a 7500 dollar bond. Thomas McGee faced armed display and disorderly conduct charges with 150 dollar bonds each. he posted bond and was released. Charles was hospitalized Saturday.

Mr and Mrs John Labosky have purchased the Cozy Theater from Sam E Tanner Beaumont and plan a May 1 reopening. The new owners, in business over 20 years, will remodel and run shows 6 pm weekdays and 2 pm weekends with a Kiddie Show on Saturdays. Admission will be 25 cents on opening day. The Laboskys aim to live in Gladewater and seek a family‑oriented venue.

Langford Named Executive Director Of DETDC In Texas
Bill Langford former Gladewater city manager was introduced as the new executive director of the Deep East Texas Development Council replacing retiring C. A. Pickett. Langford will begin June 1 from Jasper headquarters and assist the city in hiring a new manager while working part time starting May. The DETDC will expand to 136 members with 24 new directors from minority groups and 25 percent of representatives to be minority after county judge approval, a move urged by Crockett Mayor Silas as required by the Economic Development Administration.
