Centennial committee meets Friday at 3 30
The executive committee of the Centennial Corporation will meet Friday at 3 30 at Centennial headquarters. Each division head should attend and give Mrs Helen Glickman a list of his or her committee members. Women bowlers will organize their summer league Wednesday morning at 9 30. If you're interested in being a member plan to attend the Wednesday meeting at Glade Lanes. Mr and Mrs Billy McDade announce the arrival of a baby girl born April 18 weighing 5 lbs 8 oz and 18 inches long. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs W H McClennan of Gladewater and Mrs Jewel Dade of Tyler.

William Travis Fitzgerald 46 of Gladewater died Saturday morning. Funeral services set for Monday at 2:30 p.m. at a Gilmer funeral home with Rev. Balford Adams officiating. Burial in Sunset Park, Gilmer. Survived by widow Ramona, three daughters, a father G. M. Fitzgerald, three sisters, a brother, and several step children.

Gladewater High Band to Perform Final Spring Concert
The Gladewater high school band presents its annual spring concert May 1 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. It marks director Buzz Messner’s final show before resignation. Eight grade players from Middle School open, led by Walter Phillips, followed by the high school band performing selections from The Sound of Music and The Shadow of Your Smile with Richard Jones as soloist, plus Alma Mater arranged by Messner. Two Tyler Men Arrested for Narcotics in Gladewater
Beauford Terrell age 29 and Mitchell E. Eterberry age 30 were arrested Thursday by Gladewater police on narcotics possession charges after a citizen tip. A quantity of marijuana was found and they appeared before City Judge Jack Finley with bonds set at 2500 each. They were jailed in Gregg County.

Man's death ruled self inflicted at local motel
Weldon Duane Jefferies fifty five was found in a motel room about 11 59 am Thursday with a through the right temple gunshot. Justice of the Peace Boss DeLay ruled death by own action. Jefferies had checked in April twenty one and was believed from Dallas area.

Veteran lawmen honored at retirement reception
Chief Deputy Morris J. Riley 68 and Deputy John Fondren 70 retired from Gregg County sheriffs office with a reception hosted by Sheriff Tom Welch. Riley served 23 years with the office after 32 years in law enforcement, with prior postings in Kilgore Pittsburg and Gladewater. Fondren, a 42 year veteran and former Port Arthur detective inspector, also served in Madill Oklahoma and other cities. Both will stay in Longview and praised current procedures while recalling earlier 12 hour days and six day weeks.
