The reserve police officers training course class of 76 will graduate and receive state certificates on Thursday April 29 at Wyatt's Cafeteria. Gregg County District Attorney Odis Hill will be guest speaker. Trainees hail from Marshall Ore City Longview and Gladewater. The 72 hour course is the first ever conducted here and is sponsored by the Gladewater police department and Gregg County sheriff's office.

Funeral services for Mrs Vannie Williams in Gilmer
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Croley Funeral Chapel Gilmer for 81 year old Mrs Vannie Williams a lifelong Upshur County resident. Rev J W Best and Rev J A Allen officiated. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. She died Monday night in a Gilmer hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by two sons Leslie Alton Williams city and Garland Ray Williams White Oak a daughter Rena Mae Stevenson city two brothers Claude Steelman city and Doyle Steelman Dallas six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Gladewater and White Oak win top honors at the Area II I UIL One-Act Play contest held at Henderson County Junior College Athens. Women’s Division Gives Support to Bicentennial Committee
A preservation effort receives a 250 dollar donation from the women’s division for incidental expenses. Earlier gifts of 100 and 400 were added to fund a “women’s block” along the railroad and beautification costs are estimated at 500 per block. The committee plans a Bicentennial history book and microfilmed newspaper archives for public access.
