Automated approach to inventory forest properties in Texas
SFA forestry researchers receive a NASA grant of about 60000 dollars for a project using airborne laser profiling to determine timber volumes. Led by Dr. Seymour Somberg and involving Drs. David V. Smith and Robert D. Baker, the work covers laser profiling along a 45 mile Sam Houston National Forest corridor and continues prior Army Corps of Engineers collaboration. The effort aims to automate forest property inventory with U.S. Forest Service cooperation.
