Local Soldier John Jelich Killed in Vietnam

Bulletin reports John Jelich, husband of Tina Tuttle, was killed while serving in Vietnam. Mrs Jelich was notified that he had fallen in the line of fire. No further details were available at presstime.

Cancer Crusade House Canvass in Gladewater Set

The Cancer Crusade house to house canvass will be held in Gladewater on April 18. Co chairs Aleene Gage and Jean Singleton announce captains Wanda McElroy Linda Loyd Irene Midler Monnie Kelly Sammie Rambin Carolyn Spicer Martha Langford Odessa Bearden Eulalia Hall Aleene Waller and Paul Dougan. Workers begin canvassing at 6 pm to distribute educational material on cancer and its seven danger signals. Don Audas serves as business chairman. Longview Hosts First Industrial Exposition Opening

The Longview-East Texas Industrial Exposition opened with a 10 am ribbon cutting at Gregg County Fairgrounds. sponsored by the Longview Chamber of Commerce, the four day event runs 10 am to 8 pm daily through Saturday with contests Little Miss Industry and Little Mr Industry and an industrial employee art competition. Prizes total over 600 dollars including 150 and wardrobe prizes for top finishers and 150 dollars for art and essay winners.

City election yields small turnout with write-ins noted

Total votes reached 92 including write-ins as three incumbents ran unopposed. Mayor C G Johnston received five votes, Councilman Curtis Bright six, Councilman A E Shipp eighty seven. One write-in went to M D Swearingen and Larry Aron. School board candidates Dr G R Hugman one hundred twenty three and Garth Cockerell one hundred twenty two. The council canvassed the results the following afternoon.

Bass tourney to aid Dallas area rescue units at Lake O the Pines

Gregg County official notes Supreme Court ruling enjoins prior one year residency standard. Voters must have 30 days in state and locality and be registered 30 days before the election. New registrants may vote upon arrival. May 6 primary deadline is April 5 1972.

Briscoe Campaign Targets East Texas as Primary Nears

Gubernatorial candidate Dolph Briscoe campaigned in East Texas arguing for state government reform. He attacked Ben Barnes and Gus Mutscher over alleged secrets in banking bills and pledged to veto bills without public hearings.
