Canowindra led Dubbo 8-2 before Dubbo surged with two late tries and goals to win the Jack Hore Gold Cup. Warren hosts a 4-0 win over Bourke for the Marcus Clark Cup while Forbes beat Gulwe 1-0 for the Johnny Walker Cup.
Mr. E. Poulos of Gilgandra has bought the Gilgandra newsagency and the adjoining butcher shop buildings from Mr. P. C. Miller and will take over on Monday, July 3. Mr. Poulos’s sister and brother in law Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kelly are assisting, promising service to the public inline with the A B Cafe tradition.
Tournament at Mendooran was win by high handicap players in sodden fairways. Charles Shumack of Binnaway led scratch and handicap events but forfeited two trophies under rules. R Luckie won morning 11 under par. F Press and T Campbell tied for second in handicap events. presentations praised by Mr. Darcy Garling and Mrs Meers with multiple trophies awarded to Shumack, Campbell, and others.
Polo club proposes a two chukka match for the show day to boost interest and fill time. D M Kennedy notes ground suitability and asks for committee opinion. several members back the idea if no ground changes are needed. The motion to accept, contingent on ground fit, passes.
A draft of 100 crossbred wethers from Joie S TM Gilgandra sold at Winch comb Caron's Homebush auction on Thursday. The lot averaged 17.1 kilograms with 41,900 head mered, market down by 1. Lower prices marked the sale as buyers adjusted to the fall in demand.
Coolah bowlers visited Gilgandra on Sunday for a friendly match with the local Bowling Club. Sincere regret swept Coonamble upon the death of Alfred Thomas Tibbits at a private Sydney hospital. He was in his 86th year and the only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Tibbits of Arungie Gilgooma. He had not enjoyed good health for some time and was flown to Sydney in the hope of improvement, but life could not be prolonged. His loss is deeply felt by his family and the Gilgandra region, as he was a well regarded cousin of E. C. Tibbits of Gilgandra.
