Veteran Capt. Benjamin Martin Dies at Allendale
Old veteran and last surviving staff member of Brig. Gen. Johnson H. in the Confederate army, Capt. Benjamin Martin, died Wednesday March 3 in Allendale. He is survived by his brother Capt. J Elmore Martin sheriff of Charleston county and four sons. He was known as a brave aide-de-camp and cited for gallantry in action. After the Civil War he lived in Washington before returning to South Carolina due to ill health.
