Broker Commits Death by Own Action Over Forgery Charge
Louis Straus a mining broker in New York swallowed poison and died after detectives moved to arrest him on a $5 000 loan secured by a forged bill of lading. Wm A Avis & Co had filed charges claiming the bill of lading for ore valued at $75 000 was worthless. The family said his Wall Street losses were about $200 000 and he had been despondent.
