Six Men Die in Mill 1 Boiler Explosion at Gilmerton
Six workers are dead and a dozen injured after simultaneous boiler explosions in Mill 1 at John L. Roper Company in Gilmerton, seven miles from Norfolk. One boiler tore through the boiler room wall, hurling victims over 100 yards and onto railroad tracks. The cause is unknown and extensive property damage is reported.
