April dispensary sales across six counties total 186695.18 with expenses 9531.63. Georgetown leads among wet counties with 10907.05 in a report praised for progress while observers credit prohibition efforts and local enforcement for reducing whisky, with no blind tigers noted in Georgetown.
The Spartanburg Journal reports that George Hastey, a Gaffney hotelkeeper who killed two actors defending a young woman from his insults, was pardoned after the woman later stole a fiddle. The note links the pardon to the theft.
Atlantic Coast Line offers a June 6 round trip from Lanes to Jacksonville six dollars fifty cents and to Tampa eight dollars fifty cents with return by midnight June 13 1911. Spartanburg South Carolina May 25 W T Jones a rich planter who will be taken to the penitentiary next week to begin a life term for poisoning his wife has assigned his state of 5000 acres to a trust company as trustee with directions to use the income to pay his debts Attorney Sims a lifelong friend says Jones speculated in cotton and wheat to recoup defense costs He was at first successful but the tide turned and he lost 1000000 Jones conducted his operations from the Union Jail where he has been confined since his wife s death on July 4 1908
President Taft rejects clemency for Morse and Walsh, saying the decade of wealth pursuit blurred lines between lawful profits and improper gains from trust control. He calls for stern justice to protect the public and warns that meaningful punishment should extend to those truly responsible for major frauds.
The News and Courier notes a Florence planted tract bought four years ago for 4600, halves sold for 4000, then the entire 16000 with a 500 dollar dwelling. Proximity to a proposed Florence Georgetown railway appears to drive prices, while much of Eastern South Carolina remains unreclaimed and unproductive.

A New York grocer tested newspaper readers by inserting a coupon for ten cent dozen eggs in evening papers. The next morning crowds of women queued at stores, police kept order, and though the deal cost the grocer money, he gained hundreds of new customers and a week of record sales.
Ith J Southers of Eau Claire Wisconsin reports in a testimonial that kidney pills alleviated back pains soreness and poor appetite. The University of South Carolina announces scholarships in the School of Education for one male student from each county. Each award provides 100 dollars, 180 dollar term fee, and free tuition. Major George P. Howell is named to succeed Captain E. M. Adams in Charleston as harbor engineer. Friends welcome him back to a city that values his work on river and harbor improvements. Howell recently served in the Philippines and at Galveston, where he helped secure a thirty three foot appropriation and hopes to bring a dredge to Charleston to remove 10 000 cubic yards daily. He will relieve Colonel Kingman and resumes leadership familiar to Georgetown.
