Greenville May 28. After the Goldsmith brothers bought the Hoke property for 65000 in north Main Street area the city council in a special session enacted a segregation ordinance modeled on Baltimore and Richmond laws. The Hoke tract extends from north Main to College and Townes streets and is among the citys most valuable residential properties. Rumors of a Washington Greenville negro hotel syndicate arising from the deal spurred council action.
