Bad Weather Harms March Planting For Farmers

The region endures continual rain across the country delaying planting. Farmers report ground conditions poor for sowing and expect more bad weather before spring. Dry interludes allowed brief progress but overall soil remains too wet for large crops.

Mistrial Declared In Kimmel Case After Deliberations

In St Louis on March 5 the Kimmel identity dispute case ended in a mistrial after seventy three hours of deliberation. Federal Judge Amidon discharged the jury amid strife between factions and unreconciled views on whether the claimant was George A Kimmel. The jury had stood 9 to 3 for the plaintiff for most of the ballots. The foreman said no agreement was possible as juror McMyler presented a note claiming partial unanimous agreement. The judge dismissed the panel ending the case.

Mayor Gaynor Seeks Democratic Presidential Support

New York March 4. Mayor Gaynor is actively seeking the Democratic nomination for President. Campaign funds are being solicited amid a fierce field including Wilson Harmon Underwood and Clark. It is reported that each Democratic Justice of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Supreme Courts has been asked to contribute, with Wall Street benefactors also pledging. Robert Adamson said he knew nothing of the fundraising and doubted the Mayor authorized it.

Railroads Connect Hamlet to Georgetown Line

The Atlantic Coast Line and North & South Carolina railroads push a new track this week to link Hamlet and Georgetown via a branch tapping the Georgetown and Western at Rosemary between Lands' and Georgetown.
