The region endures continual rain across the country delaying planting. Farmers report ground conditions poor for sowing and expect more bad weather before spring. Dry interludes allowed brief progress but overall soil remains too wet for large crops.
In St Louis on March 5 the Kimmel identity dispute case ended in a mistrial after seventy three hours of deliberation. Federal Judge Amidon discharged the jury amid strife between factions and unreconciled views on whether the claimant was George A Kimmel. The jury had stood 9 to 3 for the plaintiff for most of the ballots. The foreman said no agreement was possible as juror McMyler presented a note claiming partial unanimous agreement. The judge dismissed the panel ending the case.
Dr J C Curtiss of Dwight Kansas reports curing eczema with Electric Bitters and claims many patients benefited. The tonic is praised as a blood purifier, effective for eczema, salt rheum boils and running sores. It supposedly stimulates liver kidneys and bowels, expels poisons and boosts strength. Wilmington dispatch reports ex mariner B F Bates announcing he captained the City of Everett a tanker rammed and sunk by a British tramp steamer off Firing Fan shoals. The Itasca sped to sea to chase a phantom barge while Bates eludes investigators and New York offices doubt his tale.
Stillman Green of Malachie Col. recalls doctors telling him he had two years to live from consumption. He credits Dr King's New Discovery, saying it saved his life. The ad urges relief from coughs colds throat and lung troubles with prices 50c and 1.00 and a free trial bottle at druggists.

New York March 4. Mayor Gaynor is actively seeking the Democratic nomination for President. Campaign funds are being solicited amid a fierce field including Wilson Harmon Underwood and Clark. It is reported that each Democratic Justice of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Supreme Courts has been asked to contribute, with Wall Street benefactors also pledging. Robert Adamson said he knew nothing of the fundraising and doubted the Mayor authorized it.
The Atlantic Coast Line and North & South Carolina railroads push a new track this week to link Hamlet and Georgetown via a branch tapping the Georgetown and Western at Rosemary between Lands' and Georgetown. Trench trestle across Big Pee Dee is underway and trains are expected to run by early May. The State notes high prices praise the grocer and asks for fair treatment of middlemen as St Patrick’s Day approaches.
Hong Kong reports ongoing unrest in Kwang Tung and Kwang Si provinces with discharged soldiers turning to murder and looting. Fortified hills along the West River deter marauders while Canton and surroundings see daily assassinations and corpses. A prominent Chinese man who resisted bandits finds his family murdered. Foreign settlement at Shameen protected by painted sandbag barricades resembling British soldiers.
Office of County Dispensary Board Georgetown South Carolina announces bids for liquor wines and beer under the Dispensary Law. Items include gin rum rye corn whiskey standard beer wines case goods full measure delivered in Georgetown. Bids due by March 16 1912 sealed no bidder marks. Board may reject bids or alter amounts.
Washington notes a provision in the Appropriation Act of March 4 1911 to establish a fish cultural station in South Carolina with $25000 for site selection construction and equipment. Senator Tillman urged concurrent action with Minnesota and the scheme moves ahead as the Bureau of Fisheries scouts locations Georgetown Camden Cheraw Orangeburg Springfield and other towns seek the station to boost the state fish industry and sport.
