Avant Sentenced for Manslaughter and Imprisoned
W B Avant is placed in the penitentiary after requisition from Governor Blease’s office. He and Dr G C Bigham were convicted of manslaughter over the death of Mrs Bigham and sentenced to three and a half years. Avant previously returned to the prison system after fleeing to Texas under an assumed name.

Drowned of James Brown at Kingston Lake
James Brown a colored laborer at Georgetown Lumber Company drowned last Sunday afternoon in Kingston Lake. He attempted to swim with a crowd toward timber logs on the opposite shore and sank after giving out. Ol Harrelson recovered the body with diving efforts. Brown lived in Bucksport area and had been employed locally.
