Montreal Herald Building Fire Kills Up to 85 in Ruins

Fire destroyed the Herald building in Montreal on June 10, with up to 85 believed dead. A collapsing water tank and winds fed the blaze as bindery workers and linotype operators were buried beneath debris. editors escaped uninjured. Rescue efforts failed as flames and a basement wall blocked entry.
