Corning Train Disaster Kills 34. 60 Hurt On July Fourth
A Lackawanna express rear ended a standing New York to Buffalo passenger train two miles east of Corning New York at 5 30 am. Thirty four died and about sixty were injured as coaches were hurled down an embankment and Pullman cars were crushed. Rescue teams and physicians rushed to the scene as wagons and automobiles carried the wounded to Corning hospital. The engineer reportedly had no warning and may have mistaken the other train for a parallel track.
