A Thomas Jefferson Stonewall Jackson Monument Association is chartered in Virginia to erect an equestrian statue to the memory of the famed soldier once Gen. Lee's ally. The organization aims to honor the Civil War figure in the style of a public memorial.

In Ossining New York February a condemned inmate Charles Swenton a negro was executed in the electric chair for the murder of Isaac Lee at Lee s West Sixty ninth street New York City The two men quarreled earlier over a tariff and a pastor s remark about codfish The incident led Swenton to shoot Lee later that night Swenton went cheerfully to the chair and after two shocks was pronounced dead This marks the first time condemned inmates sang a death dirge at Sing Sing during an execution.

Federal Prosecutor Miller indicated the grand jury has largely decided actions on dynamite conspiracy cases, with more than thirty indictments rumored. Officials reported plans by men nationwide to raise funds and hire counsel for possible defense as inquiries broaden. The jury is said to be reporting true bills.
The steamship Suwanee reached Savannah with Captain W. E. B. Donovan and six crew members from the burned schooner Frank. The blaze began after a cook lit a match on Saturday night as sails were shortened in a gale. Crew fled in a yawl, suffered cold and hunger, and Donovan nearly fell overboard while escaping.
