Boy 13 Answers Judge on God and Bible

In Newark yesterday a 13 year old witness named Max Rosenstein told Judge Jones and a jury he had never heard of God or the Bible. The boy, testifying in a damage suit against North Jersey Street Railway, said he did not know what an oath meant and did not know of God or the Bible despite questions by Chauncey Beasley. The judge allowed the testimony though it was not material to the case.

Recorder proceedings list from morning session

The Recorder disposed of several cases this morning including Solomon Stone who forfeited bond of $14. A.W. Cook was reprimanded and dismissed for interfering with police in discharge of duty. A.E. Smith Frank Simmons and James Pompey were drunk and disorderly and dismissed. Sam Green was sent to the gang for 60 days for carrying concealed weapons.

Hummel Improves as Doctors See Slim Chance of Recovery

Abe Hummel, once said to be near death by Blackwell’s physicians, showed marked improvement and possible recovery signs during the day. Dr. Tynberg reported stronger heart action and remarkable recuperative power, though the case remains grave with survival still uncertain beyond his term.
