Destruction of the Rose K Pleasure Launch at Sampit River

Last evening at about eight, the Rose K a luxury launch owned by E W Kaminski burned at its moorings on the Sampit river and was totally destroyed. The 55 foot yacht with mahogany interior and a 80 hp engine cost $4,000 and was recently brought to port. The fire's cause is unknown and only half the loss is covered by insurance.

Forestry plan urged for private Southern forests

Henry S. Graves Chief of the U S Forest Service urged private lumbermen at the National Lumber Manufacturers Association meeting to begin practical forestry on holdings rather than await legislation. He proposed test plans with cooperative associations, a 1000 to 10000 acre demonstration ground, a directing forester, guards for fire control, and measured costs and returns while stressing reproduction and long term forest stewardship.

Safe Treasure Recovered From Indianola After 1875 Disaster

Galveston Texas April 20 A large safe containing diamonds and money valued between 50 000 and 60 000 has been recovered from the gulf near Indianola Calhoun county Texas The safe belonged to James Williams a jeweler his daughter perished when the town and seaport were swept away during the 1875 hurricane and tidal wave Frank Bauer who searched for years located the chest about a mile from Williams home It lies about twenty feet deep buried in sand divers used a magnet to find it three weeks ago.

Rabies cases surge at Columbia Pasteur Institute

Over forty rabies patients are now being treated at the new Pasteur Institute at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Many patients are from poor families and summer arrivals may raise cases. housing and care provisions may be sought by the legislature. A deadly dog bite left a Charleston child with eye loss, while another child and several adults were injured.
