On May 11 1840 orders demand Brigade officers wear crepe on left arm for thirty days from May 6 as a testimonial to the memory of the late Governor Nonup whose virtues as citizen council member magistrate and officer are recalled. Brigadier General Wheeler directs 2d Co Carr 31st 32d 33d Infantry and Cavalry Captains Davis Bethea Porter to enforce. May 15 1840.
