An 1840s police report recounts Christopher Twist attempting a kiss on Hannah McGhrist, sparking a brawl with a watchman named Top. Hannah shouted, Twist fled, and Top escorted Twist to the shop. The incident drew editorials urging restraint and criticising public fuss over the kiss.
