H. S. Magill of Princeville earns chairmanship of civil service and a visit to educational institutions on the Illinois Senate’s progressive reform slate. He also joins committees on constitutional amendments corporations education fish and game judicial apportionment license miscellany municipalities public utilities waterways and congressional apportionment. The move aims to curb last session corruption and push economy and reform in state government.
Report notes that defendants faced an accusation related to selling liquor at a fair and a remark on the outcome appearing as a misdirected or boomerang statement. They were bound over to the federal grand jury with bonds set at $500 each.
Logan Ka Ka Qua a Sac full blood aborigine from Meeker Oklahoma claims he is the grandson of Black Hawk and seeks land grants never turned over to descendants. United States revenue inspectors report a large amount of liquor sold at the Joslin fair drawing arrests of Charles Dales and Frank Myers. The men were found selling intoxicants without proper licenses while others seen with licenses were to be arrested as well.
President Taft will travel from Washington to Illinois for the Lincoln birthday celebration. The itinerary includes Fort Wayne Decatur Springfield and James Millikin University with a 15 minute speech at Millikin University and a Lincoln birthday banquet in Springfield. Norton and Butt accompany the president with McKinley serving as guide through Illinois.
