Public School Notes On Enrollment And Supplies
City and Township schools announce a teachers meeting for grade teachers at 2700 p m and a high school staff meeting at 4 30 p m on Saturday August 31. An exam will be held Thursday morning August 29 for all students who wish to enter high school and those who failed the county central exam. Friday August 30 is enrollment day with seniors and freshmen in the morning and juniors and sophomores in the afternoon. Parents are urged to ensure pupils bring books on the first day as books will not be issued later. The list of required books covers many grade levels with detailed item names and prices for each.

Obituary for Cathrine Wachtel 1829 1912 Geneseo figures
Cathrine Margaretha Wachtel died Monday August 19 1912 at 8 PM at her son Henry's home in Phenix township. Born December 20 1829 in Quella Prussia she was 82 years 8 months old. Survived by sons Henry Hanna and daughter Kate Schnieder. fourteen grandchildren reported with three children predeceased. She came to America in 1854 settling in Rock Island County later moving to Edford Hanna and finally Phenix with Henry. A member of St. Malachy Catholic Church she led a devout life. Funeral held at Geneseo Catholic Church August 21 officiated by Rev Father M F Foley and burial in Geneseo cemetery.
